Light of Christ & Parvuli Dei

The Light of Christ program is the first of five religious emblems available for catholic youth involved in Scouting. It is available to registered Tiger and Wolf Cub Scouts.

The second program is the Parvuli Dei program designed for Bear Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts (3rd through 5 grade). Other programs run in 7th, 8th and 9th+ grades.

These programs were developed by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting under the auspices of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops. The purpose of these programs is to help your son develop a personal relationship with Jesus. Scouts participate in this program with the active assistance of their families by completing an activity book, which is available through our Pack. When the book is completed it is presented to Msgr. Paul of St. John's (or the pastor of your own church.)

Mrs. Sue Malone from St. John's is the coordinator for these programs. Scouts working on Parvuli Dei meet with Mrs. Malone once per month for approximately 15-20 minutes for three months (November, December, January) after 9:30 a.m. Sunday Mass to review progress on their activity book. Light of Christ candidates are encouraged to join these sessions but they are not mandatory.

After the activity books are completed, the scouts meet with their pastor or assistant pastor, to review what they have done. Boys receive their pins at Scout Sunday during Mass, which is held in February. These religious emblems are considered lifetime accomplishments and may be worn by the scout through their progress to Eagle and Leader.

If you are interested in learning more about this program, please contact Pack 191. Mrs. Malone will send you additional information to help you in deciding whether you are interested in your son's participation in this program. Copies of the Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei activity books are available to view.
